Join me for a day of exploring and photographing the stunning autumnal landscapes in and around Llangollen, North Wales. Close to where I call home, I have spent years uncovering the best photography locations, and I’m excited to share them with you during this workshop.

Itinerary

Morning: Nant Mill

Photograph gorgeous autumn colours at Nant Mill where the waterfall tumbles and cascades over a weir. Also a potential for woodland photography.

MID-Morning: Pontcysyllte Aqueduct & Traphont Viaduct

Next, we will go to the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the highest canal aqueduct in the world. Nearby, we may also photograph the Traphont Viaduct at Cefn Mawr, another impressive engineering marvel.

Afternoon: Horseshoe Falls

We then visit Horseshoe Falls, the starting point of the Llangollen Canal and part of the World Heritage Site. Nearby, Velvet Hill provides another fantastic autumnal scene.

Sunset: Panorama Walk & Castell Dinas Brân

Next, we head to the Panorama Walk of Trevor Rocks/Garth Mountain, which offers breathtaking views of Castell Dinas Brân. We will photograph from both the gritstone outcrop near the top and the limestone formations lower down, providing varied and dramatic landscapes.

Difficulty Description

The difficulty of this workshop is subjective and will depend on your personal experience and comfort in outdoor environments. The rating provided serves as a general guide within the context of this specific workshop. For instance, an easy rating for a standard day workshop differs from an easy rating for a hill-walking workshop. Further details about the itinerary can be found in the description above.

Difficulty Rating: Easy

This workshop is designed to be accessible to most participants, but it’s important to understand the terrain you will be navigating. Most locations will be approximately 15 minutes from the car, with returns to the vehicle between stops. However, you may encounter some steep sections and mixed terrain.

While some paths are paved, others consist of natural trails with stable surfaces, which may include rocks, tree roots, mud, and other natural features. We will primarily stick to well-used and popular paths, though at times, we may step off the main trail to reach the best photography spots. Extra care must be taken when navigating these areas, and I will point out any potential hazards. If you are ever unsure about a section of the route, please ask for guidance.

Although individual locations are relatively easy to access, the total distance covered throughout the day may add up without you realizing it. Expect to walk anywhere between 3 to 6 miles over the course of the workshop.
