Peak District Summer Solstice Photography Workshop (21st June 2025)

£40.00£150.00

Description

Join me on the 21st June to capture the summer solstice at sunset.

The summer solstice marks the longest day of the year, when the sun sets at 21:37. It marks a change from the unsociable photography hours, retreating to make way for the darker nights. Join me on a workshop to capture the event and celebrate the occasion.

We will spend the full day photographing the Peak District, working on our composition and camera techniques throughout the day to best help you capture a great photo when the sunset comes round. The day is typically suitable for all levels of photographers, as I try to divide my time equally on a 1-2-1 basis to ensure you are learning what you can in the time provided. Locations aren’t set in stone and I will pick them suited to the conditions on the day.

During the day, we will visit waterfalls and woodland, as the midday sun will be high in the sky and the light harsh. We will try to choose an appropriate location for the sunset that will be quiet such as Magpie Mine. Unfortunately, typical solstice locations such as Arbor Low and Nine Ladies Stone Circle become too busy to even contemplate.

We will initially meet at 14:00 to do a meet and greet with each other before heading out to somewhere like Lathkill Tufa Weir or Padley Gorge to do some waterfall photography.

We will break for some food around 18:00 and if there’s time we will do an introduction to post-processing to show you the basics of Lightroom and how to edit an image.

Most of this workshop will be easy accessibility, with walks from the car being around 15 minutes each way. We may walk longer depending on the conditions and group ability, but we will discuss as a group on the day.

We will then finish the day at sunset, putting into practice our skills learnt throughout the day to photograph hopefully the best part of the day in glorious golden light spreading across the landscape.

Upon booking, you will be sent an order confirmation email which includes meeting details, kit-list, discount codes and a questionnaire for you to fill out. This questionnaire just allows me to get information about you, so I can plan the day appropriately for the whole group.

Throughout the day we will look at techniques such as focusing, using a tripod, use of filters vs exposure blending, composition, working with the light and more.

I am more than happy to discuss other more advanced techniques on 1-2-1 basis as well as to the group, depending on what is beneficial.

The day is tailored around you as much as possible, and I strive to give each of you on the course for that day the best day possible. At the end of the day, you will have hopefully learnt new techniques and taken away some imagery you will be proud of. I am a friendly and relaxed tutor and I welcome you to keep in touch with me after the course to ask me any questions you may have looked over on the day. I have also created a Facebook client area where you can keep in touch, share your photos and keep in touch with other attendees from the day.

There will be a maximum group size of 4 meaning there will be plenty of 1-2-1 time. I will be on hand throughout the day for any questions and my focus will be on ensuring you have the best day possible.

There is a £40 deposit required to secure your place on this workshop, with the balance due no later than 6 weeks before the workshop.
