Stunning Saddleworth Peak District Photography Workshop (July 12th 2025)

£40.00£150.00

Description

Join me on the 12th July 2025 to visit the furthest reaches of the Peak District up on the Saddleworth Moors exploring locations higher up until sunset where we aim to photograph the stunning Trinnacle rock formation which works best at this time of year. Despite its close proximity to Manchester the higher up moors here are much quieter and less photographed than other parts of the Peak District.

This workshop is a day designed for those who want to venture further from their car and is classed as a photographic walk. We will cover over 6 miles with 3 different locations.

We will meet and greet at 14:30 before heading for our first location which will be Alderman’s Hill. This location is a 30 minute walk to its summit which offers stunning views over Dove Stone Reservoir and to the cliffs of Dean Rocks and Ashway Rocks, one of which we will be heading to later.

We will return to where we started then drop down to the reservoir before heading up the steep pull of Ashway Rocks which will be our second location. There are great opportunities here looking back from where we just came.

To finish the day, we will take the walk along the edge from Ashway Rocks over to The Trinnacle, an impressive pinnacle rock formation split into three, hence its name. This location only works in the summer months when the sun sets down the valley due to its position being a little lower than the surrounding hills and with a bit of luck we will have great conditions to finish the day. We will then have approx. 45 minutes to a hour walk back to the car park hence the finish at 22:30. Please remember your head torch.

While there will be a short break between locations it is suggested you bring food with you for the day.

Throughout the day we will look at techniques such as focusing, using a tripod, use of filters vs exposure blending, composition, working with the light and more. This is largely photographic walk and as such, we will build techniques throughout the day and the aim is to put what we have learnt into practice for the sunset at the Trinnacle.

I am more than happy to discuss other more advanced techniques on 1-2-1 basis as well as to the group, depending on what is beneficial.

The day is tailored around you as much as possible and I strive to give each of you on the course for that day the best day possible. At the end of the day, you will have hopefully learnt new techniques and taken away some imagery you will be proud of. I am a friendly and relaxed tutor and I welcome you to keep in touch with me after the course to ask me any questions you may have looked over on the day. I have also created a Facebook client area where you can keep in touch, share your photos and keep in touch with other attendees from the day.

There will be a maximum group size of 4 meaning there will be plenty of 1-2-1 time. I will be on hand throughout the day for any questions and my focus will be on ensuring you have the best day possible.

There is a £40 deposit required to secure your place on this workshop with the balance due no later than 6 weeks before the workshop.
